AirsoftParts AoE shims for piston heads are designed for adjustment of the Angle of Engagement (AoE) between the piston teeth and sector gear in an AEG gearbox. The set contains 3 stainless steel shims with a thickness of 0.5 mm, which are installed under the piston head. By combining them, the piston position can be adjusted in fine increments to change the point of initial tooth engagement.

25+ years of proven equipment and accessories.

The shims are installed between the piston and piston head, moving the piston's starting position backwards and allowing the contact between the teeth to be adjusted. Correctly adjusted AoE helps distribute the load during initial engagement and reduce improper stress on the piston teeth. Each shim has a thickness of 0.5 mm, and with three pieces in the set, the resulting spacing can be adapted to the specific setup. When adjusting AoE, we recommend checking the actual position of the piston and sector gear in the assembled gearbox, as the required spacing may vary depending on the piston, piston head, gears and other components used.
The shims allow you to adjust the angle of initial engagement between the sector gear and piston teeth, helping to align their relative positions more accurately.
The shims are installed between the piston and piston head, allowing the piston's starting position to be moved without modifying the teeth themselves.
Each shim has a thickness of 0.5 mm, allowing spacing to be added gradually according to the requirements of the specific gearbox.
The package contains 3 shims that can be used individually or combined for a total spacing of 0.5 / 1.0 / 1.5 mm.
The shims are made from stainless steel without any additional surface treatment and form a solid spacer layer under the piston head.
AoE (Angle of Engagement) refers to the angle and position at which the first tooth of the sector gear begins to engage the piston teeth. Correct adjustment helps ensure proper tooth contact at the beginning of the piston pull. For more information and a video guide on AoE adjustment, visit our blog.
The shims are installed under the piston head, between the head and the piston body. This moves the piston backwards relative to the sector gear.
There is no universal number for every gearbox. We recommend starting with the minimum required spacing and checking the actual engagement of the sector gear with the piston teeth. The shims can be combined in 0.5 mm increments up to a total spacing of 1.5 mm.
Correct AoE can help reduce improper stress on the first piston teeth during engagement. However, service life also depends on the power of the setup, RoF, tooth material, gears used and overall gearbox configuration.
