AirsoftParts shim set (20 pcs) is designed for precise gear shimming in AEG gearboxes. It contains shims with thicknesses of 0.1 / 0.2 / 0.5 mm, allowing gradual adjustment of the axial play of individual gears. The thickest 0.5mm shims have a larger outer diameter for easy identification. One pack is sufficient for approximately 2–3 guns.

25+ years of proven equipment and accessories.

ASPARTS033
AirsoftParts steel bushings (8 mm) are precision CNC-machined bushings for AEG gearboxes with 8mm bearing seats. An electroless nickel coating with a hardness of 660–850 HV increases wear and corrosion resistance while providing a smooth sliding surface. The set contains 6 pieces, and the manufacturer specifies use with springs up to M170.
ASPARTS099
AirsoftParts bronze bushings (8 mm) are precision CNC-machined bushings for AEG gearboxes with 8mm bearing seats. Bronze offers very good sliding properties in contact with steel gear axles, while the relieved contact surfaces help reduce friction. The set contains 6 pieces and is designed for builds with springs up to M140.

Correctly selected shims allow the axial play of individual gears to be adjusted so that the gears are not unnecessarily loose while still being able to rotate freely without unwanted binding. The set combines thicknesses of 0.1 mm, 0.2 mm and 0.5 mm, allowing the required spacing to be built up gradually according to the specific gearbox, bearings and gears. The 0.5 mm thick shims have an outer diameter of 7 mm, which is 1 mm larger than the other shims in the set, making them easier to identify quickly while working. The pack contains a total of 20 shims and, according to the manufacturer, is sufficient for approximately 2–3 guns.
The shims allow you to adjust the axial position and play of the gears in the gearbox according to the specific combination of gears and bearings.
The set contains 0.1 / 0.2 / 0.5 mm shims that can be combined for fine or larger corrections to the position of individual gears.
The 0.5 mm thick shims have an outer diameter of 7 mm, while the thinner versions have a diameter of 6 mm, making them quick to distinguish while working.
The pack contains 20 pieces in practical thicknesses – 8 pieces of 0.1 mm and 6 pieces each of 0.2 mm and 0.5 mm.
According to the manufacturer, the number of shims in the set is sufficient for shimming the gears in approximately 1–2 airsoft guns, depending on the specific build.
Mass-produced guns often have poorly adjusted gear shimming, so it is worth shimming the gears correctly during the first service. This involves placing shims of different thicknesses between the gear and the bearing in the gearbox to eliminate play between the gear and the gearbox. At the same time, however, you must not over-shim the gears, as this would cause them to bind. Therefore, using a trial-and-error method, you add and remove shims, often in 0.1 mm increments, until you achieve ideal shimming where the gear has minimal to almost no play with the gearbox fully closed (this must be checked with the gearbox fully closed and tightened) while still spinning freely and continuing to rotate under its own inertia with minimal resistance (the gears must not be lubricated with grease or any other oil during testing). When shimming individual gears, you must also ensure that the gears do not rub against the gearbox shell or against each other, so you also need to check the height of the individual gears relative to one another. In addition, you must check the position of the bevel gear relative to the motor pinion so that the bevel gear is neither too low, causing the motor to force it off-axis, nor too high, which could cause the motor pinion to strip the edges of the gear teeth. There is still more to consider: you must also pay attention to the position of the sector gear relative to the piston teeth so that the gear pulls the piston along the center of its teeth rather than along their edges, which could otherwise result in contact with the piston body or damage to the gear teeth. Some technicians begin shimming with the spur gear because it sits vertically below the other gears, but this method increases the risk of incorrect positioning of the bevel gear relative to the motor pinion. Usually enough teeth will still engage to prevent immediate damage, but it can result in worse motor sound, higher battery current draw and reduced RoF. The second method is shimming from the bevel gear, but the bevel gear must be positioned high enough not to rub against the spur gear while also allowing the spur gear to clear the gearbox. Both methods have their supporters and opponents, as well as their own advantages and disadvantages. In short, gear shimming is an art that separates home tinkerers from true professionals in AEG upgrades.
They are used to adjust the axial position and play of the gears. Correct shimming helps ensure that the gears are neither excessively loose nor tightly constrained and can rotate smoothly inside the gearbox.
By combining 0.1 / 0.2 / 0.5 mm shims, the resulting spacing can be adjusted to the specific combination of gears, bearings and gearbox.
The 0.5 mm thick shim has an outer diameter of 7 mm. The thinner 0.1 and 0.2 mm shims have an outer diameter of 6 mm, making them easy to distinguish.
The manufacturer states that the set of 20 shims is sufficient for approximately 1–2 guns. Actual consumption depends on the required shimming of the specific gearbox and gears.
