DMR Rifle MK12 SPR

MK12 Special Purpose Rifle (SPR) is a weapon developed specifically for American armed forces units, especially for Special Forces and the Marine Corps. The development of this rifle began in the late 90s with the aim of creating an accurate, semi-automatic rifle capable of providing support fire at medium ranges.
The development was initiated in the late 90s in response to the need for greater accuracy than standard assault rifles, but with a higher rate of fire than traditional sniper rifles and DMR rifles firing a stronger caliber. The United States Navy assigned the development to the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division (NSWC Crane).
First prototypes and testing took place in 1999-2000, where various rifle variants based on the AR-15/M16 platform were tested. The focus was on improving accuracy and ergonomics.
The MK12 SPR was first deployed in 2002 during operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, where it proved its value in combat conditions thanks to its accuracy and reliability. Based on user feedback, minor adjustments and improvements were made, including enhancing aiming systems and optimizing the handguard.
Despite the development of newer systems, the MK12 SPR remains popular due to its accuracy and capability to fulfill a support rifle role and is still in service with some special units.
