RetroArms Delayer Chip is designed for V2, V3 and M249 gearboxes and is installed on the sector gear between the axle and pin. It helps extend the time the hop-up chamber remains open and keeps the tappet plate in the rear position for longer, which can improve BB feeding at high rates of fire or when using weaker magazines. It is designed for axles with...

Specna Arms PTFE grease in a practical 50 g package is a service lubricant for mechanically stressed parts of airsoft guns. It is particularly suitable for gearbox gears, piston racks and sliding surfaces. The PTFE additive reduces friction and wear while helping to ensure smooth operation of the mechanism.

Unlike standard cast gears, these gears are machined on precision CNC machines. The result is a robust gear set designed for upgrades where greater mechanical durability and precise gear geometry are required. The 16:1 gear ratio is slightly speed-oriented and represents a highly versatile choice. It is therefore well suited to builds where the goal is a combination of fast response, good RoF and sufficient torque for common upgrade springs. The gears have standard 3 mm shafts for most bearings, and the set is suitable for springs ranging approximately from M100 to M130. When using stronger springs, the correct combination of motor, battery and other internal components is important. The sector gear features an integrated cam for operating the tappet plate. For the entire set to function correctly, careful gear shimming is essential. Hard steel gears with incorrectly adjusted clearances can cause increased gearbox noise and unnecessarily strain the motor.
The gears are machined from steel on precision CNC machines and offer greater mechanical durability than standard cast gears.
The slightly speed-oriented 16:1 ratio offers a balanced combination of cycle speed and gear mechanism torque.
The set is suitable for common upgrade builds with springs ranging approximately from M100–M130. A spring around M120 is a versatile configuration for a 16:1 gear ratio.
The package includes all 3 gears required for the gear mechanism of a standard AEG gearbox.
The standard design is suitable for TM-standard AEG gearboxes, including platforms such as M4, AK and G36.
| Ratio | Gear type | Spring range | Typical use | Recommended motor |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 13:1 | Ultra high-speed | M90–M115 | High RoF, fast response | High-torque / Brushless |
| 14:1 | High-speed | M100–M120 | High RoF with sufficient torque | High-torque / Brushless |
| 16:1 | Versatile (speed / torque) | M100–M130 | Versatile upgrade, fast response | High-torque / Brushless / standard |
| 18:1 | Standard (versatile) | M100–M140 | Standard performance, versatile use | Standard / High-torque / Brushless |
| 100:200 (26:1) | High-torque | M130–M160 | Higher-power DMR builds | High-torque / Extra high-torque |
| SR25 18:1 | Extended V2.5 gearbox | M120–M150 | DMR with 19-tooth piston | High-torque |
For gears, we recommend using PTFE grease, which is more suitable for metal gears than standard silicone grease. It adheres well to the gear teeth and creates a durable lubricating film between metal surfaces. Apply only a thin, even layer; there is no need to fill the gearbox with grease. Silicone lubricants are primarily suitable for seals and O-rings, while a lubricant designed for mechanical friction, such as PTFE grease, is more suitable for metal gears.
CNC-machined steel gears offer greater strength and more precise manufacturing than standard cast gears. More precise gear geometry and greater mechanical durability are particularly beneficial in higher-performance or otherwise modified AEG builds. However, even high-quality CNC gears alone do not guarantee a reliable gearbox – correct shimming, motor adjustment and compatibility with the other components are essential.
The basis of quiet operation is correct shimming, motor height adjustment and suitable lubrication. The gears must have a small amount of operating clearance while still rotating freely without binding after the gearbox is closed. Pronounced whining or grinding often indicates incorrect engagement between the motor pinion and bevel gear. Simply adding more grease will not make incorrectly adjusted gears quieter.
Adjust the motor height only after correctly shimming the gears. Use the adjustment screw on the bottom of the pistol grip or motor cage to set the motor so that its pinion gear correctly engages with the bevel gear. Excessive pressure causes noisy operation, high resistance and motor heating, while insufficient pressure results in shallow engagement, pronounced whining and may damage the teeth. A correctly adjusted setup should have a smooth, clean sound without pronounced whining or binding.
