RetroArms CNC Low-Profile 8 mm Plain Bearings are manufactured by precision CNC turning from high-quality 90MnCrV8 (1.2842) steel and heat-treated to a hardness of 58 HRC. The low-profile design is particularly suitable for V2 gearboxes, where standard bearings may interfere with the selector plate. The package contains 6 bearings.

Specna Arms CNC steel gears

This expert product description was prepared by the ANAREUS.cz expert team. All rights to this unique content are bound to the anareus.cz domain.Specna Arms complete set of machined steel gears designed for upgrading TM-standard AEG gearboxes. Unlike standard cast gears, these gears are machined on precision CNC machines. The result is a robust gear set designed for upgrades where greater mechanical durability and precise gear geometry are required. The 18:1 gear ratio is a highly versatile choice. It is therefore well suited to builds where the goal is a combination of fast response, good RoF and sufficient torque for common upgrade springs. The gears have standard 3mm shafts for most bearings, and the set is suitable for springs ranging approximately from M100 to M140. When using stronger springs, the correct combination of motor, battery and other internal components is important. The sector gear features an integrated cam for operating the tappet plate. For the entire set to function correctly, careful gear shimming is essential. Hard steel gears with incorrectly adjusted clearances can cause increased gearbox noise and unnecessarily strain the motor.

Key features of Specna Arms CNC gears

CNC-machined steel

The gears are machined from steel on precision CNC machines and offer greater mechanical durability than standard cast gears.

Versatile 18:1 ratio

The slightly speed-oriented 18:1 ratio offers a balanced combination of cycle speed and gear mechanism torque.

For springs up to M140

The set is suitable for standard and upgrade builds with springs ranging approximately from M100–M140. A spring around M125 is a versatile configuration for an 18:1 gear ratio.

Complete set of 3 gears

The package includes all 3 gears required for the gear mechanism of a standard AEG gearbox.

For TM-standard gearboxes

The standard design is suitable for TM-standard AEG gearboxes, including platforms such as M4, AK and G36.

Frequently asked questions from our store

What should I use to lubricate steel gears in an AEG gearbox?

For gears, we recommend using PTFE grease, which is more suitable for metal gears than standard silicone grease. It adheres well to the gear teeth and creates a durable lubricating film between metal surfaces. Apply only a thin, even layer; there is no need to fill the gearbox with grease. Silicone lubricants are primarily suitable for seals and O-rings, while a lubricant designed for mechanical friction, such as PTFE grease, is more suitable for metal gears.

Why are CNC steel gears better than standard cast gears?

CNC-machined steel gears offer greater strength and more precise manufacturing than standard cast gears. More precise gear geometry and greater mechanical durability are particularly beneficial in higher-performance or otherwise modified AEG builds. However, even high-quality CNC gears alone do not guarantee a reliable gearbox – correct shimming, motor adjustment and compatibility with the other components are essential.

How can I reduce gear noise in the gearbox?

The basis of quiet operation is correct shimming, motor height adjustment and suitable lubrication. The gears must have a small amount of operating clearance while still rotating freely without binding after the gearbox is closed. Pronounced whining or grinding often indicates incorrect engagement between the motor pinion and bevel gear. Simply adding more grease will not make incorrectly adjusted gears quieter.

How should I correctly adjust the motor height after installing a new gear set?

Adjust the motor height only after correctly shimming the gears. Use the adjustment screw on the bottom of the pistol grip or motor cage to set the motor so that its pinion gear correctly engages with the bevel gear. Excessive pressure causes noisy operation, high resistance and motor heating, while insufficient pressure results in shallow engagement, pronounced whining and may damage the teeth. A correctly adjusted setup should have a smooth, clean sound without pronounced whining or binding.
