AK, officially known as the Avtomat Kalashnikova, was developed in the Soviet Union by Mikhail Kalashnikov in the late 1940s. It became the standard-issue rifle for Soviet armed forces (AK-47) and is still widely used around the world thanks to its ruggedness, reliability, and ease of use. The AK-47 uses the 7.62×39mm round, providing solid stopping power and effective range.
In the 1970s, the modernized AK-74 with a smaller 5.45×39mm cartridge was introduced. AEG rifles from E&L are known for their externals produced in real firearm factories, making some parts identical to real AKs. The body is entirely made of steel with no ZnAl parts, ensuring exceptional strength and durability. It features oxidized steel parts that contribute to the authentic look. You’re essentially getting a “real AK shell with airsoft internals”, of course adapted to accommodate airsoft-specific needs such as wiring, motor space, and gearbox alignment. This is one of the toughest airsoft guns available and can't be compared to cheaper brands like CYMA or Specna Arms.
The handguard and gas tube cover are made of solid lacquered wood just like the real firearm. The grip is made of durable polymer for comfortable handling. The weapon is not equipped with a side mounting rail (like its real prototype) for mounting sights. The rifle is finished with a solid stock made of real wood. The Essential series allows partial disassembly without tools, similar to real AK rifles.

Internal Parts and GATE ASTER SE V3 Control Unit

Inside the gun, you’ll find a reinforced E&L Version 3 gearbox with QSC quick spring change system and the control unit GATE ASTER SE V3. This system ensures safe trigger switching to protect internal components, improves trigger response, and extends battery life. It also increases the gun’s rate of fire (RoF) and allows safe use of 11.1V Li-Pol batteries. Bonus features include adjustable trigger sensitivity, pre-cocking, and various fire modes. The gearbox houses high-quality internals such as 18:1 gear set for ideal RoF and durability, 9mm steel bushings, piston with a single metal tooth, POM nozzle with O-ring, steel cylinder, and silver-plated low-resistance wiring. The setup is completed by a metal AK hop-up chamber with 6.04 mm precision inner barrel and a short-shaft E&L M120 motor.

Warnings

• Do not use springs stronger than M120. Damage caused by overload is not covered by warranty.
• Some spring brands are overrated (e.g. SHS M120 equals M130–135), which may exceed the durability of internal parts, especially piston teeth.
• When using a spring with progressive (irregular) winding, make sure the tighter end faces outward on the spring guide.
• Never store the gun with a connected battery.
• Never store the gun with pre-cocking mode activated. Always release the piston before storing to prevent spring damage.
