For a long time, wool was the best material, but with the advent of nylon fabrics and developments during the Vietnam War, a new standard emerged – an ultra-light blanket serving as a poncho liner with rain protection.
In Australian slang, "swagman" means a traveling worker, similar to an American cowboy who roams and looks for work. The Australian swagman traveled on foot and carried all his belongings in a fabric roll.
